A large percentage of all the information regarding hair care and styling usually only caters to women. This is probably because women are perceived to be more self-conscious and concerned about their tresses than men. But of course, this does not in any way mean that men do not care about their hair at all.

Below is an outline of the basic hair care routine for men and excellent techniques on how to go about this.

Type

Know your hair type. Before you can decide on the proper routine for caring for it, you first need to know what type you have. The basic types of are dry, oily and normal. If you have dry hair, which is usually a result of inactive oil glands, you will need to wash your hair with a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. You also need to have a monthly hot oil treatment to give it a lustrous shine.

For normal, it is enough to make use of a regular shampoo and conditioner. But if you have oily hair, you need to find products that are specifically designed for it.

Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoo and condition the right way. Using warm water, wet your hair and then apply a small amount of shampoo. Gently massage the shampoo into your scalp and then work your way down towards the strands. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

As for conditioning, you should also apply a small amount on your hair after you are done shampooing it. Leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly, this time with cool water to help close up the hair cuticles. Blot dry it with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing vigorously because doing so can contribute to hair breakage and cuticle damage. Also, avoid washing your hair on a daily basis because this can strip your hair off essential oils that it needs to keep itself looking great and healthy.

Combing

Opt for combing instead of brushing. Combing minimizes damage and tangles. Use a wide toothed comb to comb your hair starting from the roots to the ends in a downward motion.

Hair Styling

Do not overdo with styling products. Use hairsprays, gels, mousse or style sticks sparingly. Apply only a small amount. It is always better to have a hairstyle that moves and breathes instead of one that is stuck neatly onto your scalp. Use only high quality products that will be gentle enough.

Use high quality equipment like Corioliss flat irons. These irons are great because they are made of high standard materials and will not cause hair breakage or damage to your mane. Corioliss flat irons are especially useful if you want to have long straight hair, which has always been a common hair trend among men. Just be sure that you know the proper ways of using this equipment so you will be able to maximize its efficiency.

Great hair contributes to a pleasing physical appearance and high self-confidence. This makes its care a concern that is not solely for women but also for men.
